Goodwill-West Texas believes an individual's life can be positively impacted through the power of work. Our mission is to provide opportunities for people with barriers to employment. Barriers we encounter can be age, disability, homelessness, lack of work history, etc. Our goal is to work with and place the individual at a job in our organization or in the community to build hope, dignity and self-sufficiency for the individual.
Our territory serves 35 counties and we have 14 stores in 10 cities across West Texas. Additionally, we have 2 Career Centers and are working to build a third.
We accomplish mission through a variety of internal and external programs. Internally, our organization employs 320 people of which 62% have indicated they have a barrier. Externally, our Career Center works with individuals through the provision of free services including: one-on-one career counseling, resume writing, interviewing skills, job search assistance, placement and retention follow-up.
Goodwill-West Texas seeks to fund a new local initiative: Work Again West Texas - powered by Goodwill.
This new work program will be designed to provide work experience for people throughout the city who are experiencing homelessness.
Our plan is to acquire a van that will pick-up homeless individuals and pan-handlers across the city and transport them to work sites for 4-hour shifts. At the sites, they will engage in roadside and city beautification at local organizations, parks or city sites. After the completion of their shift they will be returned to Goodwill for compensation and provided with access to supportive services.
Donations will directly support the wages, equipment, and overall cost of this program to provide hope and self-sufficiency to our homeless neighbors.
