The Texas Forts Trail supports communities, historic sites and attractions in Central West Texas, and encourages economic development through tourism, education, marketing and historic preservation initiatives. The Texas Forts Trail (501c3 nonprofit) serves the communities in and travelers to a twenty-nine county region in Central West Texas. The Texas Forts Trail was designated by the State in 1998 as an official “heritage region” of Texas and is one of the 10 regions in Texas which comprise the award-winning Heritage Trails Program developed by the Texas Historical Commission.
The mission of the Texas Forts Trail is to increase heritage tourism to the Texas Forts Trail Region by making people aware of the region and its attractions; educating people about the role of forts in the development of Texas; fostering historic preservation in the region; helping improve sites to be visited in the region; and helping develop local/regional heritage tourism leadership.
The Texas Forts Trail needs your support to continue serving Central West Texas with community development training and educational opportunities; extending the limited resources of historic and cultural sites, chambers of commerce, and cities and counties; and promoting the unique cultural and historic assets of the region.
